At 24, Janiva Roy is nothing short of being prodigious. She has achieved so much in such a short snap and already has 25 Hindi albums to her credit, which showcase her linguistic skills in Bengali, Bhojpuri, Malayalam, Assamese, and Santhali. Her versatility does not stop there. She also dabbles in a variety of musical genres ranging from classical, Adhunik (modern), Shyama sangeet, Bhajans, Ghazals and Indipop. Her repertoire is truly formidable for one so young.
To her, singing is more a profession, with acting playing second fiddle. Currently, she is a playback singer whose vocal skills have been utilized in the recently released Bengali film, Tapasya, directed by Raj Mukharjee and produced by RD Bansal .She sang four songs and was the only local singer to share the platform with Bollywood playback singer Abhijieet, Vinod Rathor and Soham.
In September 2006, Roy recorded for a feature film in Bengali, Loknath, as playback singer. Singing since the age of eight, she took her early training in the genre from her father, Bappi Roy, a veteran singer. Subsequently, she took talim from Nasir Hkan and Sipra Basu.
Her tours abroad involved spending eight months in 1997 when she was just 17. She has also visited Singapore and Bangkok for concerts. Aside from tours aboard, Roy has performed as a singer in many cities in the country Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai.
She had performed in several programmes with Mumbai artistes such as Abhijeet, Sharukh Khan, Babul Supriyo, Sonu Nigam, Sudesh Bhonsle, Jatin, Lalit, Mithun Chakraborty. |
